What is your payment term of polywire order?

We have two kinds of payment for polywire sample order and formal order. For the sample order, you are requested to pay by PayPal, western union and 100% TT in advance.

For the formal order, we prefer to have T/T 40% as the deposit and 60% before the shipment and we proceed with this kind of payment since we started the business in 2002.

Is your polywire made of stainless steel?

Yes, we have the stainless steel #304 instead of stainless steel 202. As #304  stainless steel can make polywire with strong breaking strength, lower resistance and anti-corrosion ability too. So that #304 stainless steel made polywire will have greater conductivity and longer life span when it is applied in the electric fence system. As we believe only the quality products can make business forever. So we only recommend buying the polywire with #304 stainless steel conductor.

Is your electric fence polywire at the lowest price?

No, we never sell the polywire at  lowest price. As you know if there is no profit for the company. How can they feed their staff? How can they ensure quality? Polywire—Your Ultimate FAQ Guide

To offer the best options to your clients when it comes to electric fences, when last did you look at what the market has to offer? Modern innovation offers you the helpful product called polywire.

Today’s market has a range of options and you may wonder which is best. Polywire is visible which improves safety.

It’s also easy to tighten which makes setup very easy. That’s why it’s such a popular stock item for retailers. Should this be in your storage room?

Read on to find out more.

What is Polywire?

Polywire is a type of electrified wire that you can use to carry electrical current between posts. It can be added to an existing electric fence or you can use it on its own.

Polywire is ideal to fence off gardens but also popular in the agricultural industry. Polywire can be a temporary solution which is sometimes better than permanent fixtures such as traditional electric fencing.

Polywire comes in various colors that are more visible than traditional fencing wire.

What are the Benefits of Polywire?

Polywire is popular for the many benefits it brings the user:

  • It’s easy to repair
  • The colored wires are more visible to animals, preventing them from walking into them
  • The wire is lightweight and sold on reels, making it easy to work with
  • Polywire is easy to install
  • It’s more affordable than many other types of electric fencing
  • If you maintain your polywire fence it can last for years

What is Polywire Made of?

Polywire is an electric wire that’s a combination of metal wire and polyethylene filament. A specialized machines weaves together these different strands.

It’s the polyethylene that gives the wire its color. The plastic filaments are also UV resistant which makes the wire more weather resistant.

The metal can be stainless steel, copper or other types of wire. The conductive strands are usually #304 stainless steel wire.

This is practical because of the low resistance levels and because it’s rust proof. It’s also affordable, so it keeps prices low for end users.

The market also has polywire that’s a combination of metal and twine or even ribbon.

How Many Strands Of Conductors Does Polywire Have?

There are multiple strands in each polywire product. They act as electrical conductors. The product’s specs list will provide details about how many strands of conductors the wire contains.

Most polywire products have six strands of conductors, but you’ll also find reels with three strands or nine.

In 9-strand polywire you’ll often find copper which makes it much more conductive than regular polywire. This type is then referred to as Turbo wire.

What Types of Polywire are Available?

When you look at polywire specs lists you can categorize them according to the following:

  • Diameter: This is how thick the entire wire is. Most polywire products are between 2mm and 3.5mm
  • Strand count: Each polywire product will have a number of conductor strands woven into the wire. There can be 3, 4, 6 or 9 strands.
  • Conductor diameter: You need to know how thick the conductor strands are because this affects the conductivity. Strands will usually be 0.15mm or 0.25mm thick.
  • Color: Polywire comes in different colors such as bright blue, orange, red and yellow. You also get white products or a mix of different hues woven together. The integration of the filaments determines the vividness of the color.
  • Length: The length of the wire on the reel determines how large an area it will cover. You can purchase 100m or even as much as 800m of polywire on one reel.

How Does Strand Count Impact the Effectiveness of Polywire?

Each conductor strand in polywire adds to the conductivity of the polywire. A wire with nine strands can offer more conductivity than a three strand polywire.

This means the nine-strand wire will be more powerful and produce greater shock. This is necessary when you’re trying to control larger animals.

Strand count is also an important feature if you’re putting up fences over long distances. Once the polywire stretches over 0.25 miles it may need more power—conductivity—to still be effective.

How Does Polywire Work?

Polywire is connected to a source of electricity which can be an energizer or a different electrified fence. Because the metal strands are energy conductors the electricity can run through them.

When an animal tries to move past the fence and touches the polywire, it completes the circuit. The object or animal will experience a slight electric shock. This is a deterrent to keep animals within certain areas or out of gardens and other zones.

The second feature of polywire that works is the color. Once animals associate the visible wire with an electric shock they will try and prevent pain by staying away from the wire.

Because polywire is more visible than traditional electric fencing it can be a more effective deterrent.

How to Manufacture Polywire

The manufacturing process of polywire combines two main products: polyethylene (PE) and metal. The metal can be aluminum, stainless steel, tinned CU or copper.

In modern factories, state of the art machines makes quality strands of these products. The polyethylene gives the polywire its color.

The machines weave the PE and metal strands together in specific patterns. Different patterns produce different colors and hues.

Some polywire products also have UV protection layers so they last longer in harsh sun. With certain polywire products the machines also expose the strands to steam.

The heat ensures that the polyester shrinks around the center strands, improving the overall wire’s strength.

The manufacturing process also includes quality testing, such as:

  • Measuring breaking loads of each polywire product.
  • Inspecting anti-aging features
  • Determine the strength of the wire

3 Important Specs of Polywire to Consider Before You Buy

Before you buy polywire, research the following:

  • Make sure it’s UV resistant so it last long in the sun
  • Rather use polywire with high grade #304 stainless steel wire because #202 stainless steel is less durable
  • Make sure the test breaking strength suits your purpose

Where can Polywire be Used?

The visibility, user-friendliness, strength and power of polywire make it practical to use in many industries & scenarios:

  • Domestic use: You can use it to protect your garden at home. Since it’s easily visible to the naked eye it won’t pose much risk to people who use the premises. However, you can easily keep out animals that want to come near flowers or vegetable patches.
  • Farming and agriculture: On a farm you can use a polywire fence to protect crops. It will keep animals out. Another use is to keep livestock from moving out of a certain territory. This is an easy way to control grazing. Because it’s easy to move, use it to adjust to season’s farming requirements. A polywire fence can quickly be moved to create a new grazing area or protect new crops. You can also use it to sub divide pastures in a quick, easy AND affordable manner.
  • Wildlife management: Because the wire doesn’t cause much pain, but is a strong product, you can use it to manage wildlife movement. You’ll restrict large animals’ movement but the thin wires won’t ruin the natural look of an area or scare off other wildlife such as birds.

Will Polywire Work for All Types of Animals and Livestock?

How consumers use polywire often determines how effective it works for the given situation. Larger animals who haven’t been trained to look out for the wire may not respond well to this type of fence. However, clients have used it effectively with many types of animals, such as:

  • Horses
  • Cattle
  • Sheep
  • Goats
  • Pigs

If you use the wire from the time these animals are still small, they will learn to avoid it.

What Posts are Ideal to Sell with a Polywire Fence?

Customers can opt for one of the following fence posts for polywire boundaries:

  • Metal: This is durable but remember it’s heavy. If someone has to carry them over far stretches of land it becomes more difficult to set up the fence.
  • Fiber glass: People appreciate how lightweight fiberglass posts are. That makes them easy to work with. If you have to carry many posts across your property, this is the ideal type to use.
  • Polyethylene: This type is fairly durable although not as much as metal. Some of them have precast loops for easy fence setups.

How to Identify Quality Polywire

You need to purchase quality wire the first time so there’s no need to replace it soon after purchase. Here’s how to know you’ve got a winning polywire product:

  • Breaking load: When you manage the movement of large animals you want the wire to hold even if there’s a large force pushing against it. This makes breaking load a priority when comparing polywire. If you only have to keep out small animals though, it’s less important.
  • UV and rust resistance: You want wire to stay in good condition for a long time, even in wet climates or harsh sunlight. For this you need wire that’s UV resistant and known not to corrode easily.
  • Weight: Invest in lightweight wire if you will have to carry the reels over far distances.
  • Price: The most expensive isn’t always the best. Make sure you get a balance between price and quality.
  • Reusability: For optimum value it’s important that you find it user friendly. It must be effortless to take down the wire, set it up somewhere else, or even rewind it onto the reel for future use. When you can reuse wire it limits future expenses. This makes reusability a valuable feature.
  • Tightness: Make sure the various strands are woven together tightly. If not, the polywire can fray easily or sections will become loose.
  • Metal mix: A mix of different metals provide more conductivity.
  • Reinforcement: Any structure reinforcement mentioned in the specs means the polywire will last longer than others.

Some polywire products may only have certain of these features. Also, customers will have different needs and preferences. Make sure you cater for all types of needs.

How Long can Polywire Last?

The lifespan of polywire depends on many factors. This includes the quality of the product and the exact weather conditions in the area. Also, lifespan can decline if you don’t look after it in storage. It must be wound onto a reel so it doesn’t fray or lose some of its durability.

Usually, high end polywire can serve you well for 3 or even up to 5 years.

What Is A Popular Polywire Color?

You’ll see that polywire products come in many different colors. In part, these colors are for visibility and aesthetics, but different colors also work for different situations. It’s important that the color you pick will work for the purpose you’re buying it for.

When the background is grass, a white polywire fence is often more visible. This is why white is one of the most popular polywire colors. White is also more visible in low light conditions. This makes it more practical if you’re trying to prevent animals’ movement during night times too.

For home use, you may find that a bright color such as orange stands out more and looks stylish. Bright colors are also popular in snowy regions because it’s more visible against the white backdrop.

How To Install Polywire Electric Fences

When it comes to polywire installation, you can pick one of two methods:

  • Install polywire as part of your existing fence infrastructure. In this case you’ll attach the wire to the traditional electric fencing and it can draw power from that system.
  • You can create an entire new circuit without incorporating other parts of your fencing. You’ll require a power source, such as an energizer.

For both these methods, use these guidelines for easy polywire installation:

  • Step 1: Prepare for installation by putting on gloves. Make sure there’s no power running to any wires you may touch.
  • Step 2: Run the wire. You may find it easiest to lay the wire down on the ground where you’ll need your fence. If the fence will cover a long distance, get onto a four-wheeler, hook your polywire reel onto the vehicle and simply drive where you want the fence. The polywire will unwind and fall on the ground exactly in place. If you don’t have a vehicle, simply walk with the reel in hand and let the polywire unwind.
  • Step 3: Hook the polywire onto the first point of contact, such as the existing electric fence. This can be done by using specially designed handles to which you tie the polywire. If you’re creating a new fence, insert a fence post and attach the wire to it.
  • Step 4: Now it’s time to hook your polywire into your other fence posts. Once again you can drive your four-wheeler with your posts on board. Stop every few feet and push a post into the ground. Many polywire posts are designed for temporary fences as step in posts. They have sections at the bottom on which you can stop to drive them into the soil. Now pick up the wire you already laid down and slip it into the loops on the posts. In general you can place a post every 10ft. If you’re taking the wire across a hilly area you may need to put the posts closer together. This is to make sure the polywire stays well off the ground even if the terrain changes.
  • Step 5: Follow the same procedure to add additional wires to the fence. For small animals you need to space wires 3” apart. For larger animals such as sheep, 6” of separation will suffice. You need to make sure the animals won’t get through the wire or get their heads caught in it.
  • Step 6: When you installed and attached all the wires, make sure there are no obstructions that could cause arcing. Also ensure your wire is attached to the power source.
  • Step 7: Switch on the power source.
  • Step 8: Measure the voltage with a fence tester to ensure electricity flows evenly throughout the entire fence.

Handy tips for installing your polywire fence:

  • Make sure your corner posts are solid, to give your fence enough structure and support.
  • For a polywire fence you can test the tension by hand to make sure there’s no slack. Use a tightener to improve the tension when necessary.
  • You can use a separate reel for each wire so you don’t have to cut your polywire in pieces. Simply leave it wound onto your polywire reel and hook the reel onto your fence when you’re done. When it’s time to take down the fence you can simply unhook the reel and start rolling up to move the fence or place the wire in storage.

What Gauge Wire is Ideal for Polywire?

Talking about gauge refers to how many amps the wire can safely carry. If more amps than that rating run through the wire, it may become hot. This can impact the wire’s durability.

When you compare wires’ gauge ratings there’s no specific gauge that’s perfect for everyone. You need to find a gauge that works for your purpose. If the polywire fence must keep larger animals at bay, you’ll settle for a higher gauge to ensure the shock is strong enough to make an impact.

A very small shock may not deter cattle or large game. However, if you mostly want to keep small animals out, settle for a lower gauge. Don’t end up hurting or even killing the animals.

An 18-gauge wire is a 1.02mm wire and this is a common option. But 14-gauge, or 1.63mm, works best if the animals have thin coats.

How To Check The Voltage Of Polywire

A polywire fence may need testing from time to time. This is to ensure it’s working properly and doesn’t pose any unnecessary harm. This is where voltage testing comes in. If you suspect problems, you can also check the voltage on various sections of the fence. This will help you figure out where voltage drains take place.

Check that the voltage reading is on par with the necessary voltage or above it. You can check the voltage of polywire with one of two gadgets:

  • Voltmeter: Your voltmeter could also be a multimeter. In that case, make sure you set it to the voltage setting. Now touch the black lead to the ground and let the red lead make contact with the polywire. Take the reading in kV.
  • Fence tester: These gadgets make it easy to check the voltage on a fence because some of them only have one measurement slot or rod. Other models even have hookup clips. It’s specifically designed for testing wire fences. Touch the fence to test the voltage at a specific point. Some models can even show you in which direction from that point there’s a fault on the line. Take note whether your fence tester has a ground probe. If it does, you need to stick it into the earth in order to get accurate readings.

Is Polywire a Permanent or Temporary Measure?

Polywire can be a permanent fence option in certain situations. For example, it’s a practical solution to protect gardens without setting up an expensive electric fence.

In most cases however, customers use polywire as temporary fencing and many add it into existing fencing. For example, you can hook up polywire to traditional electric fencing to keep animals inside a certain grazing section. Take the fence down when you want them to move out of that area again.

It’s also important to remember that polywire can be less durable in harsh weather conditions. This means, leaving it out could see the wire deteriorate faster than traditional electric wire or polytape. If you don’t need the barrier at all times, take it down. Roll it up on a reel so it stays in good condition until you need it again.

Can Weeds Short Out Polywire?

As with any electric fence, maintenance is vital when you have polywire on your premises. Weed plants can grow big enough to affect the flow of current in the wire. If the weeds touch the wire it can cause a short. This means the system has to work harder than usual and the result is a lower current running through the polywire. This makes the fence less effective.

In light of this, it’s important to check the fence on a regular basis. Ensure that weeds, grass or other obstructions don’t cause the polywire to short.

How to Repair a Polywire Fence

There are different maintenance tasks that apply to polywire fences. One problem could be that the line is slack. In this case you can opt for a simple item called a polywire tensioner or tightener. There are different designs, and they can be metal or plastic. You install one on your fence and when it slackens you simply use the tightener to manage the tension.

Polywire may also get frayed or broken, in which case you need a more intense polywire repair. For this process you’ll need a few tools:

  • A piece of polywire that will replace the damaged section
  • Gloves to protect your hands
  • Voltage or fence tester
  • Crimper
  • Crimping sleeves

Make sure you have everything on hand before you start. Also remember to switch off the fence’s power source so no accidental shock occurs. You can use your voltage tester to confirm there’s no current running through the wire.

Safety tip: wear your gloves throughout the process as an additional safety measure.

If you’re working on frayed wire, cut it completely off where you want to repair it. Don’t worry about measuring the replacement wire. Take a piece that will be comfortable to work with. You can use tighteners on the fence to adjust the tension when you’re finished repairing the fence.

Now simply follow these easy steps:

  • Step 1: Take one end of the damaged polywire and slide three of your crimping sleeves over it. The wire will fill one side of the crimping sleeve. Position the crimpers from the end of the wire backwards. We suggest using three units because it will give you a sturdier connection.
  • Step 2: Push the one end of the replacement wire through the open sections on the other side of each crimping sleeve.
  • Step 3: Position your crimper tool correctly so you squeeze each crimper closed around the wires. Because of the exposed metal strands in each piece of polywire and the metal in the crimpers, the current will be able to flow through the connection.
  • Step 4: Pull hard on each piece of polywire to make sure the connection is secure and will sustain pressure. If an animal pushes against it you don’t want the wires to pop out.
  • Step 5: Repeat this process and crimp together the other damaged end of the polywire fence and the remaining end of the replacement wire.
  • Step 6: Adjust the tension in the fence so no wires touch.
  • Step 7: Switch on your power source to the fence.
  • Step 8: Make sure the current is flowing at the right levels by using your voltmeter. You need to test it on all sides of the splices you created. If one section shows lower levels than others, redo the splice.

You can also use these guidelines when you need to connect two sections or reels of polywire to create a longer fence. In that case you’ll only have two pieces of wire to join together, requiring one connection only.

Tip: if the damaged wire has enough slack you can simply cut off the damaged ends and splice the two sections together. You’ll only require one connection, which creates less chance of future problems.

How To Fix a Polywire Electric Fence To Prevent Arcing

When you do splicing on polywire you create a risk of arcing. During arcing the electricity discharges but it doesn’t use the path you created for it. Because of frayed wires, the electricity may jump to a nearby grounded object. You’ll usually notice arcing by the clicking noise you hear when you’re near the fence. When you listen closely, chances are that the arcs happen at the splices.

One quick fix is to give the electricity an appropriate route to follow:

  • Switch off the fence’s power source.
  • Take about 24” of regular fence wire.
  • Wrap the wire around the polywire, a few inches on each side of the splice. Let it spiral around the polywire to create good connections with the metal strands in the polywire.
  • Switch on the power source and test the flow of current, similar to what you’ll do after splicing (see above).

If you fixed all the necessary places your fence shouldn’t produce the clicking sounds any longer.

Is Polywire Reusable?

Reusability is one of the reasons polywire is such a good investment. You can install polywire and then remove it later on and there’s no reason to throw it away. Simply ensure it’s properly stored so it remains in good condition.

How to Store Polywire

It’s extremely important that you use proper storage methods when putting away excess wire. Make sure it’s protected from the elements so it doesn’t rust or fray over time.

You can also store wire that you’ve already used once. But don’t simply roll it up into a ball and place it in a corner. This can affect its durability. The better option is this: after taking down the fence, use a polywire reel to firmly wind it up. This will prevent unnecessary wear and tear.

You can leave excess wire on the polywire reel, instead of cutting off a piece where the fence ends. You can then hook the polywire reel onto the fence for safekeeping. This makes it easy to take the fence down again. Simply switch off the power, unhook the wire where it’s connected and roll up the polywire. You’ll have your entire reel to use next time, without splicing two sections together.

Don’t Get Confused—How to Distinguish Polywire from Other Types of Fencing

The market has many electric fencing products. Each one is designed for a specific purpose. This includes polytape, galvanized wire and more. To identify polywire you will usually look at color and diameter. Polywire is a thin rope and bright in color compared to traditional fencing wire. Also look for the woven texture that’s different than many other fencing products.

What is the Difference Between Polywire and Polyrope?

Polywire and polyrope are similar in construction. There are various strands woven together. However, polyrope is much thicker than polywire, measuring up to 8mm in diameter.

Polywire is a mixture of plastic filaments and steel wire and polyrope contains fiberglass and even more stainless steel than polywire. This steel is woven into the rope, which makes polyrope stronger than polywire. It’s a preferred option for windy areas because it doesn’t fray easily. But of course, it’s heavier and less user friendly.

What Is The Difference Between Polywire And Poly Braid?

Poly Braid is also a woven fencing product. However, poly braid is a stronger version.

Polywire Vs Polytape

Both polywire and polytape are made in various colors. The difference between the two mainly stem from the width. Polytape can range from 10mm to 40mm wide. Polywire only measures 2mm to 3.5mm in diameter. Polytape is known for its strength and is popular for perimeter fencing and horse fencing.

What to Include in a Polywire Fencing Starter Kit

If you want to help a first time polywire user, it’s ideal if he or she can have all testing and installation gear in one buy. This starter kit empowers them to start installation as soon as they get home. They don’t waste more time or money on searching for all the relevant utensils. This makes a starter kit a popular product to sell.

In most cases, a polywire starter kit should include the following:

What Is The Cost Of Polywire?

As mentioned, polywire is sold in different lengths. For a reel of 200m you’re bound to pay around $19, while 400m will cost you $36. If you buy multiple reels from a supplier you may get some discount and pay closer to $30/reel.

For Turbo wire you’ll pay a little more though: 800m will cost you almost $150.

How To Custom Polywire For Your Brand

In today’s market you aren’t forced to pick from standard products. You can also request custom made polywire that suits your preferences in terms of diameter, color, strength and strands. This tells the manufacturer what testing requirements it must implement when making the custom polywire.

You can also provide a sample of polywire that’s similar to what you need. This guides the manufacturer in the designing process to pick the correct colors and strands.

How to Find the Right Polywire Supplier

When you deliver polywire to consumers you want to impress them so they become loyal customers. For this you need a trustworthy supplier. To find the best in the polywire business, research the following before you commit to an order:

  • Will the supplier deliver regularly and on time?
  • What do other customers say about their customer service?
  • Look at a sample of their products to determine if they will work for your market.
  • Do they allow for customized polywire so you can cater to your customers’ requirements?
  • Are they affordable? Just remember that you shouldn’t simply go for the cheapest products because that can mean you get a lower quality polywire product.
  • Does the supplier have all the polywire types that you need? Rather do business with one vendor that does it all to simplify administration and lower transport costs.
  • What return policies and guarantees will the supplier offer?
  • Can the supplier and manufacturer deliver proof of quality testing processes?

Make sure your new polywire supplier benefits you in as many aspects of your business as possible. That will give you value for money.
